Rev. Murray is the son of the late Deacon Isaac Murray and the former Nellie Lancaster. A former resident of the Charleston area, he has seven sisters and three brothers. His early years were spent in the Liberty Hill section of North Charleston, SC. The late Rev. Dr. B. J. Whipper, Sr. baptized him at a young age at the Charity Baptist Church.
Rev. Murray is a graduate of Trident Technical College, Baptist College of Charleston, Cummins Theological Seminary and Webster University. He is currently in the research phase of his doctoral dissertation at Erskine Theological Seminary. Rev. Murray is licensed in the state of South Carolina as a Professional Counselor and is also a Grief Facilitator.
Rev. Murray is a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
Rev. Murray and his wife Vernell have been married for 26 years and have one daughter Erica, and two grandsons, Ka’shon Abraham and Kadeem Armard.
Rev. Murray was installed as Pastor of Brick Baptist Church in June of 2001. He has brought inspiration to Brick by focusing on the youth, preserving the historical legacy of the church, connecting the church and the community and providing a vision for the growth of the church, that includes building a sanctuary that meets the needs of the worshipers of today.
Rev. Dr. Sally A. LaPoint is a native of Port Arthur, Texas and the daughter of the late Deacon Charles and Lela Jolivet. She was baptized at the age of 7 by Rev. H.B. McCarty, pastor of the Rock Island Baptist Church.
Rev. Dr. LaPoint joined the Body of Christ at Brick Baptist Church in February of 1992 and faithfully served as advisor to the Youth Drill Team, participated in the Young Women’s Missions, provided instruction for the first New Member Orientation class, Bible study classes, Baptist Youth Ministry and served two years as chairperson of the Trustee Ministry. Rev. Dr. LaPoint organized the “Fruit of the Spirit” women’s retreat, and the “Spiritual Warfare” seminar for the men, women and children of the church. Rev. LaPoint has presented a Spiritual Gifts Workshop to the ministry leadership at Brick Baptist and Wesley Methodist Women in Beaufort.
Rev. Dr. LaPoint accepted her call into the gospel ministry and was licensed in 1998. In 1999, she was fully ordained and served as interim pastor for 17 months and presently serves as Associate Minister under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Abraham Murray.
Rev. Dr. LaPoint has dedicated her life to serving God her church family and her community. She continues to grow in her walk, relationship and knowledge of the essence and character of God. Her ministry has been greatly enhanced and enriched as a student of the Bible Graham School of Evangelism, the Rev. Dr. Barbara Fishburne Ministries’ Bible classes, seminars and the annual Minister’s Conference at Hampton University.
Rev. Dr. LaPoint is employed by the University of South Carolina Beaufort and provides administrative leadership for the Early Childhood Family Initiative. She holds a B.S. degree from Prairie View University; a M.Ed. from the University of Oklahoma, a Ed.D. in Leadership and Administration from the University of Massachusetts. Rev. Dr. LaPoint is the mother of three children and 6 wonderfully blessed grandchildren.
